An 18-year-old man was killed in a Brooklyn park early Monday after fireworks exploded in his face.

Around 1:30 am, the 9800 block of Fallgold Parkway North received a report from a park.

According to a news statement from the Brooklyn Park Police Department, the 18-year-old

suffered serious injuries to his hand and face when he arrived. He said a friend was doing CPR.

Attempts were also made to save the man's life by members of the Brooklyn Park Fire Department and North Ambulance paramedics.

He was taken to North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale, where he was later pronounced dead.

Despite the rarity of fireworks-related deaths in Minnesota, an Apple Valley man died in 2021 after being struck by a firecracker. 

Earlier, the last death related to firecrackers in the state was in 2015.

There were 17 fireworks-related injuries in Minnesota in 2021, compared to 78 in 2020.
