The first two countries in Europe to ban Google Analytics were France and Austria.

Unless Google revises its approach to its data collection technologies, more countries are
projected to join the bandwagon to tighten data protection and security standards across Europe.

The Italian government's ban comes after a thorough investigation launched in August 2020 in response
to a supervisory authority complaint about data transfer. In response to the complaint a task force of
several European regulatory authorities was formed, created by the European Center for Digital Rights.
Italian authorities came to the conclusion that Google Analytics collects information on the browser,
operating system, screen resolution, language chosen, date and time of page viewing,

as well as the device's IP address. Then, this information is passed on to US-based services.
